It was with sadness that the congregation gathered to bid farewell to May Scott at St Leo’s Parish on 13 January. May had been a well-known and respected figure in education in Glasgow until her retirement – she was awarded an MBE for her services to education – and a loved figure in the parish.
She had been instrumental in the development of Children’s Masses and Cantatas in the Archdiocese of Glasgow, working with Mgr Gerry Fitzpatrick and others over many years. That legacy lives on in the many schools who take part in the cantatas and in the offshoot celebration Mungo’s Bairns.
May’s family were joined by many of her colleagues and friends, and in addition members of the St. Mungo Singers who had worked with May joined the parish choir to support the music for her funeral Mass.
