The St Mungo Singers had another funeral of a member of their extended choir family to attend in May when they joined family, friends and fellow parishioners of John Campbell, much loved and respected bass singer, for his funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church in Cumbernauld. John had been an outstanding member of the choir for many decades, only retiring when his health made it impossible for him to continue. He had also been a stalwart of the Common Time music group.
‘How blest are those who have died in the Lord’
Parish Priest Fr John Campbell presided at the funeral Mass and was joined by Mgr Gerry. In his homily Mgr Gerry described John as a man of great faith – hence the choice of Psalm 83 with its opening words “My soul is longing and yearning for the house of the Lord” – and that faith had been lived out in his dedicated service in the parishes of St Conval’s and Sacred Heart where he had been a parishioner. He had been equally dedicated in his service to the choir over so many years and the presence of the many choir members attested to this. They will miss this lovely man.
Rest in peace, John.
