Morning Prayer  Lent 1

Not by bread alone do we live,
but by every word from the mouth of God.
Not by bread alone, Not by bread alone,
Glory to the father, glory to the Son,
Glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Prayer for peace

Loving Father,
We pray for peace in the Holy Land,
For Syria, the Yemen and all the gtroubled countries
Where people’s lives are threatened or taken from them
by violence or war.
We pray for refugees
And for those who need to show mercy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Psalm 94   Listen to the voice of God. Harden not your hearts.

Come and sing with joy to God!  Hail the rock who saves us!
Come before him giving thanks,  praise the God who made us.
Listen to the voice of God.  Harden not your hearts.

Come, adore on bended knee, praise the God who made us!
Praise the shepherd of our flock, praise the hand that leads us.
Listen to the voice of God.  Harden not your hearts.

“Do not put me to the test, doubting like your fathers
In the desert long ago, when they tried my patience!”
Listen to the voice of God.  Harden not your hearts.

Let us pray

Father of us all,
fill us with confidence as we remember what you have done for us,
and the love you have shown us.
And give us the grace to rely on your strength
particularly when our lives are difficult,
and the generosity to show others the goodness that you show us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Nehemiah 8:9, 10

This day is sacred to the Lord your God.
Do not be mournful, do not weep.
For this day is sacred to our Lord.
Do not be sad:
the joy of the Lord is your stronghold.

Canticle   Benedictus 1

Blest be the Lord the God of Israel,
who came to us and brought us back from sin.
God raised for us a Saviour who is mighty;
his Saviour-Son from David’s house and line.
God promised this through holy men and women
who spoke for him down through the mists of time.

We pray for the church:
That  each of us may have the self-understanding and strength to use this season to grow in goodness.
Lord, hear us

We pray for those whose lives are made hard by circumstances beyond their control.
Lord, hear us

We prayfor people who are preparing for Baptism or for full Communion with the Church at Easter.
Lord, hear us

We pray for the sick, and for those who feel isolated, neglected, or abused – may the healing power of God renew life and love within them.  Lord, hear us

Our Father. . . . . . . .

May the Lord bless us and keep us
And may he lead us to eternal life.
