Compline 1 Sunday

O God, come to our aid: O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

As the day draws to its conclusion
we thank the Lord that we have seen his grace
in the lives of people round about us,
in our families and friends, our colleagues and in the wider community.
We ask for the wisdom to be encouraged by his presence
and for forgiveness for our own sins and failings.

Dunkeld:  Kyrie, eleison.  Kyrie, eleison.  Kyrie, eleison.

Ps 26 The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

The Lord is my light and my help: of whom then, shall I be afraid?
The strength in my life is the Lord,  before whom shall I ever tremble
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

Though an army encamp to oppress me, even then I would not fear.
Though war should break out against meEven then would I trust.
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

One thing I ask of the Lord:  to live with him for evermore.
O Lord, hear my voice, in mercy answer!  I seek you, dismiss not your servant.
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

Glory to God the Father, glory to the Son,
Glory to God the Holy Spirit now and for ever.  Amen.
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

Reading                                                                                            Deuteronomy

Listen, Israel: the Lord our God is the one Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength. Let these words I urge on you today be written on your heart. You shall repeat them to your children and say them over to them whether at rest in your house or walking abroad, at your lying down or at your rising.

Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
You have redeemed us,  Lord God of faithfulness.
Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
Glory be to the Father  and to the Son  and to the Holy Spirit.
Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.

Save us, Lord, while we are awake; protect us while we sleep
That we may keep watch with Christ and rest with him in peace.

 From the Song of Simeon

All powerful God,  you give us leave to go in peace as you have willed.
Our eyes this day have seen your light;
in love give quiet, peaceful end.

Come to visit us, Lord, this night,
so that by your strength we may rise at daybreak
to rejoice in the resurrection of Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Blessing

May the almighty Lord grant us a quiet night
and a perfect end.
Amen.
