The Annual Mass for deceased clergy of the Archdiocese of Glasgow took place in St. Andrew’s Cathedral on 17 November. Archbishop Tartaglia was joined by priests from across the Archdiocese to celebrate the Mass in memory of Archbishops, Bishops and priests particularly those who had died during the preceding year:-

Canon Jim Simcox

Fr. Bernard Connell

Fr. Charles Kane

Mgr. Matt Coakley

Mgr. Jim Clancy

Fr. Charles MacFadden

In his homily, Archbishop Tartaglia invited everyone present to commend to God’s mercy all the faithful departed. As the readings of the Mass for that day reminded us, the thought of death can make us go weak at the knees but we must remember the tenderness and faithfulness of God. The Gospel tells us that the Lord expects his servants to follow him, and that in turn is what we expect of our priests, that they will follow the Lord.

It is appropriate that we celebrate the Eucharist for them today, he said, as they have done so often for the community, and he asked that the congregation pray on this occasion for vocations to the priesthood.
