A Morning Prayer for Advent
Powerpoint version available on request recorded by children of Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School with music by Catriona Glen and Magdalen and Donald MacInnes.
We begin and end with a short hymn or verse
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, his name shall be Emmanuel.
God with us, revealed to us, his name shall be Emmanuel.
The Prince of Peace, the Prince of Peace, his name shall be the Prince of Peace.
Peace he brings that knows no end. His name shall be the Prince of Peace.
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, his name shall be Emmanuel.
God with us, revealed to us, his name shall be Emmanuel.
Let us pray
Lord, as we look towards Christmas
renew our love of all that is life
and our enthusiasm for living it.
Let our journey towards Christmas
be full of hope for good things to come,
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
from Ps 121: May the house of the Lord be at peace.
“Let us go to the house of the Lord”, they said,
Oh how great was our joy when we heard!
Now our feet are set firm on Jerusalem’s soil
at the gates of the City of God,
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
For the city is blessed now with unity,
all restored in its beauty and calm.
Here the tribes of the Lord in their thousands have come
to give thanks unto Israel’s God.
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
A reading from the Letter to the Philippians 1:9
My prayer is that your love for each other
may increase more and more
and never stop improving your knowledge
and deepening your understanding
so that you can always recognise what is best.
Intercessions
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
As we journey through Advent we pray for ourselves and for all young people
at the start of their journey through life.
Lord, hear us
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
We pray for migrants
and refugees & all who have lost their homes:
Let them be treated with kindness.
Lord, hear us
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
We pray for the people of our own city
and our neighbourhood.
Lord, hear us
May the house of the Lord be at peace.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
Conclusion
I rejoiced when I heard them say:
“Let us go to the House of God.”
And now our feet are standing
Within your gates, Jerusalem.
Glory be to the Father,
Glory be to the Son,
Glory be to the Holy Spirit
Both now and evermore.
