Morning Prayer with Mass

The Feast of Sts Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen

You alone are holy and you alone are Lord
And you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit Now and for ever. Amen.
You alone are holy and you alone are Lord
And you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ our Lord.

We light our candle for peace and say together:

Lord God,

we pray for the Holy Land,
For Syria and the Yemen
and all the troubled counties of the Middle East and Africa,
where peoples lives are threatened
or taken from them by violence or war.
We pray for refugees and for all who need to show mercy.

We sit for the psalm

Ps 23: Such are the ones who seek your face, who seek your face, O Lord.

The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness, the world and all its peoples.
He it was who set it on the seas, on the waters he made it firm.
Such are the ones who seek your face, who seek your face, O Lord.

Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?  Who shall stand in his holy place?
The pure in heart, whose hands are clean,
and who does not seek worthless things.
Such are the ones who seek your face, who seek your face, O Lord.

He shall be blessed by the Lord, rewarded by God, his Saviour.
Such the ones who seek your face, who seek Jacob’s God.
Such are the ones who seek your face, who seek your face, O Lord.

Let us pray:

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
as we revere Sts Basil and Gregory Naziazen
let us understand better the Gospel they taught
and give us the strength to grow
in love for you and for our neighbour.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen

We stand for the Glory to God

Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.  Amen

The Collect of the Day

The 1st reading

Alleluia, alleluia.  At various times in the past, and in various different ways,
God spoke to our ancestors, God spoke through the prophets.
Now in our time he has spoken through his Son. Alleluia, alleluia.

The Gospel

Intercessions

From the very beginning, you promised well-being to your children;
grant that the whole human family may be enlightened by the light of your Gospel
Lord, hear us

We give praise to your Son.      Abraham joyfully foresaw his coming;
the patriarchs hoped for it; the prophets announced it and the people longed for it.
Bring salvation to people everywhere.  Lord, hear us

Bless your church everywhere,
and let the union your Son prayed for
be realised between East and West.
Lord, hear us

Comfort the sick,  strengthen those who are struggling,
support us in our families, and guide the leaders of our countries.
Lord, hear us

Give eternal rest and peace to those who have died.
Lord, hear us

May the souls of the faithful departed
Through the mercy of God Rest in peace, rest in peace.

With the preparation of the gifts

O Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord, hear my prayer,
when I call, answer me.  O Lord, hear my prayer,
O Lord, hear my prayer, come and listen to me.

Jubilee Sanctus

Memorial: When we eat this bread, and drink this cup,
we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come,
we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come,

Doxology

Agnus Dei

Communion:

I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.
I come that you may have life, life to the full, says the Lord.

After Communion – a verse of the Benedictus

For all our sins will freely be forgiven,
the heart of God pours loving kindness forth,
God comes to us like dawn comes to the sky
bringing true light, where darkness once prevailed.
So all who live in  fear of death’s dark shadow,
God will now guide into the way of peace.

Blessing: May the Lord bless us, and keep us from all harm,
and may he lead us to eternal life.
