Psalm 39: Here I am, O Lord! I come to do your will.
I waited, I waited for the Lord. He stooped and he heard my cry.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song in the praise of our God.
Here I am, O Lord! I come to do your will.
You ask not for sacrifice and offerings. You ask for an open ear.
You ask not for holocaust or victim. Instead, Oh my God, here I am.
Here I am, O Lord! I come to do your will.
In the scroll of the book it stands written that I listen and do your will.
My God I delight in your law, your law finds its home in my heart.
Here I am, O Lord! I come to do your will
Let us pray
God, our Father,
you bid us listen to your Son, the Well-beloved.
Nourish our hearts on your word, purify the eyes of our mind,
and fill us with joy at the vision of your glory.

Amen.
a reading from the prophet Joel 2: 7
Between vestibule and altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, lament.
Let them say, ‘Spare your people, O Lord!
Do not make your heritage a thing of shame, a byword for the nations.’
A verse of the Benedictus
God swore his oath to Abraham and Sarah, to give us all our freedom from all fear;
to save each one from those who seek to harm them, that we might serve in holiness of life,
that we might serve in justice and in truth, our ev’ry day in presence of the Lord.
