Lent Morning Prayer 2 (1)

sung verse

Guard us, Lord, as the apple of your eye,
hide us in the shadow of your wing.
Glory to God the Father, glory to the Son,
Glory to God the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Let us pray:         (as we light our candle for peace)

We pray for peace in the Holy Land,
for Syria, Iraq and all the troubled countries
where people’s lives are threatened or taken from them
by violence or war.
We pray for refugees, and for those who need to show mercy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Psalm 26: The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

The Lord is my light and my help: of whom then, shall I be afraid?
The strength in my life is the Lord,  before whom shall I ever tremble
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

One thing I ask of the Lord:  to live with him for evermore.
O Lord, hear my voice, in mercy answer!  I seek you, dismiss not your servant.
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

Glory to God the Father, glory to the Son,
Glory to God the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.
The Lord is my light, the Lord is my help.

Let us pray:

God of the covenant,
as the forty days of the Flood swept away the corruption of the world
to enable your people to make a new beginning,
so in the waters of Baptism we are washed clean and born again.
Throughout these days of Lent, unseal for us the fontain of grace,
cleanse our hearts,
and let the new life you give us flourish once more.
Grant this through Christ our redeemer,
whoever and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
holy and mighty God for ever and ever. Amen.

Deuteronomy 30: 15-16

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.
For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws;
then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

a verse of the Benedictus

The Saviour comes to free us from our foes  from evil hands, from those who wish us ill.
So God’s great love for all his chosen people  is thus fulfilled; in these our present times.
God’s sacred oath his covenant most holy is called to mind, his promises made true.

Intercessions

In Christ we become a new creation, the old order passes and all things are renewed.
Let us pray in living hope.

During  Lent we ask that each of us may have the strength to answer God’s call to goodness in whatever way it is given to us.
Lord, hear us

We pray that during Lent we may be able to make good choices,
and have the strength to re-affirm the commitments we have made.
Lord, hear us

We pray for the sick and housebound of our community, and  those who feel lonely, neglected, or poorly treated  –
may the healing power of God renew life and love within them.
Lord, hear us

We pray for the well-being of all the people of our community, our city and our country.
Lord, hear us

May our deceased relatives and friends, and all whom we mourn,
be at peace in the kingdom of God,
and may our hope of life with them be renewed.
Lord, hear us

Our Father, who art in heaven . . . . . . . .

ending with: (sung)

How precious is your love, O Lord, your everlasting love.
How precious is your love, O Lord, your unfailing love.

Let us pray

Look kindly on our efforts during Lent, Lord,
and while we offer you our self-sacrifice
renew our spirits with your grace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Blessing

May the Lord bless us and keep us from harm,
And lead us to eternal life.
