I bow my knees before the Lord our God.

God our Father,
You called John Duns Scotus to serve you
in the simplicity of life of the Franciscans
and in the search for understanding.
May we be encouraged to follow Christ more faithfully
as we see both simplicity and wisdom in his life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Short reading 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
I shall be very happy to make my weaknesses my special boast so that the power of Christ may stay over me, and that is why I am quite content with my weaknesses, and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and the agonies I go through for Christ’s sake. For it is when I am weak that I am strong.

Lord God, light of the faithful and shepherd of souls,
who gave blessed John Duns Scotus to your people
to strengthen them by his teaching
and encourage them by his example,
grant that we may always rejoice in the faith which he taught
and follow in the way he walked.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
