A Morning Prayer from radioalba.org christian
Blessed John Duns Scotus 1266 – 1308

Bagpipes

Canticle from Ephesians

I bow my knees before the Lord our God.
Each fam’ly comes from God:
The Spirit strengthen yours with inner power.
May Christ dwell in your hearts!
May you be filled now, filled with the fullness of God.
May you be filled now, filled with the fullness of God.

The Spirit strengthen you with inner power.
May Christ dwell in your hearts.
By faith may you be rooted and based in love
and know the love of Christ.
May you be filled now, filled with the fullness of God.
May you be filled now, filled with the fullness of God.

Let us pray

God our Father,
You called John Duns Scotus to serve you
in the simplicity of life of the Franciscans
and in the search for understanding.
May we be encouraged to follow Christ more faithfully
as we see both simplicity and wisdom in his life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Short reading 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

I shall be very happy to make my weaknesses my special boast so that the power of Christ may stay over me, and that is why I am quite content with my weaknesses, and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and the agonies I go through for Christ’s sake. For it is when I am weak that I am strong.

Psalm 115: I will walk in the presence of God.

I trusted when I felt afflicted, I walk in the sight of the Lord,
And even in the face of death, I will walk in the presence of God.
I will walk in the presence of God.

Your servant, Lord, is ever trusting. My bonds you have loosened with care.
I offer thanks and sacrifice, I will walk in the presence of God.
I will walk in the presence of God.

My vows to God I keep with gladness,I dwell in the house of my Lord.
My promises I will fulfil. I will walk in the presence of God.
I will walk in the presence of God.

Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit both now and for ever. Amen.
I will walk in the presence of God.

Canticle Benedictus 4

And you, my child, are favoured by the Most High:
you shall be called a prophet of our God.
You shall go forth as herald from the Lord,
and shall prepare the ways on which he comes.
You shall make known the wonders of salvation
to everyone called chosen by the Lord.

Prayers and Intercessions

Let us raise our eyes to Christ.

For his people he was born; he died; he rose from the dead.
We trust in him, and pray:
Redeemer of us all, we delight in the Gospel

Blessed are you, Jesus, saviour of mankind.
By your death and resurrection we are redeemed.
Redeemer of us all, we delight in the Gospel

You promised to give water welling up into eternal life:

pour out your Spirit over the whole human family.
Redeemer of us all, we delight in the Gospel.

You sent your disciples to preach the Good News to the nations:
help us all to be glad of the gift of faith.
Redeemer of us all, we delight in the Gospel

John Duns Scotus grew up in our own country.
Let all our children thirst like him for knowledge and understanding.
Redeemer of us all, we delight in the Gospel

Our Father, who art in heaven . . . . . .

Music: Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness.
Make thy way plain before my face,
for it is thou, Lord, thou, Lord, only
that makest me dwell in safety.

Let us pray

Lord God, light of the faithful and shepherd of souls,
who gave blessed John Duns Scotus to your people
to strengthen them by his teaching
and encourage them by his example,
grant that we may always rejoice in the faith which he taught
and follow in the way he walked.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen.

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm;
and may he lead us to eternal life.
AMEN
