On 24th January 2025, priests and parishioners, friends and family gathered with Archbishop Nolan to mark the life and work of Fr Dermot Healy and say farewell.
‘How blest are those who have died in the Lord”
let them rest from their labours . . .’
Fr Healy had given fifty years of 
priestly service (celebrating his Golden Jubilee in 2024) which had encompassed the peripheries of the universal church, in Peru and Equador, as well as the near and familiar in Glasgow parishes, taking the joy of the Gospel to those near and far.
Fr Milarvie, who gave the homily at Fr Dermot’s own request, had first met him in 1991 when he himself had been a seminarian and had found the experience unique and unforgettable. Fr Dermot had been a restless questioner but a man of faith, just like Job from whom the first reading came. Towards the end of his life, he had come to a sense of peace and a fitting end to this reflection would be the words of St John Henry Newman –
May the Lord support us all the day long,
Till the shades lengthen and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
