On 18th February 2022, members of the St. Mungo Singers gathered in St Paul’s, Whiteinch to bid farewell to Dougie Millar, a much loved and esteemed member of the Bass section, who had died after a period of illness. The church was full, with Dougie’s family being joined by former workmates and friends from Dougie’s many interests, and parishioners.
The Mass was concelebrated by Parish Administrator Fr Andrew McGowan and Mgr. Gerry Fitzpatrick, Director of Music for the Archdiocese and Director of the St Mungo Singers. Fr. McGowan spoke of Dougie with great warmth and affection in his homily, remembering the characteristic twinkle in his eye and his determination during his final illness to be at home with his much-loved family.
At the committal service at Maryhill Crematorium, his eldest daughter, Susanne, gave what was, for many of those present, the best eulogy they had heard – emotional, humorous and proud, remembering her father’s devotion to his wife, Ann, and his four daughters, and his grandchildren. She recalled his lifelong friendships, some stemming from his days in the Scouts and others from his rugby playing at St Mungo’s Academy.
Farewell, Dougie. You will long be remembered and missed by the St Mungo Singers.
