St Columba and David Livingstone
2013
Culross pilgrimage with Glasgow Churches Together Saturday June 22nd 2013
Glasgow Churches Together are organising a trip to Culross in Fife as part of the celebrations of the 1450th anniversary of St Columba and the 200th of David Livingstone.
It is not known whether either of the two ‘giants of faith’ were ever at Culross but both men were connected to St Mungo, with Columba and Mungo exchanging pastoral staffs
and David Livingstone spending much time living and studying at Glasgow.
Culross is a lovely medieval village, is a lot easier to reach than Iona, and the Minister, Jayne Scott and her community there are famed for their hospitality, so we will hold a
thanksgiving celebration there with a service in that part of the medieval monastery which is used by the local parish and either a picnic lunch or a visit to the Red Lion to sustain us.
Buses leave George Square, Glasgow at 10.00 on Saturday 22nd June. Cost is £6.00. Please bring either a picnic lunch or prepare to visit the Red Lion at Culross – fish suppers renowned!
The service will be at about 12.00 and will be supported by the St Mungo Singers. All are welcome but if you would like to travel with us by bus please let us know at
