‘Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened and I shall give you rest.

The signs at the entrance to St Joseph’s read “Bienvenida”  to greet the Mother General of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Sister Maria del Monte Auxiliadora, their first Spanish Mother General, and  inside the residence there was an air of joy and excitement as they prepared for a Votive Mass in honour of St Joseph – appropriate both for the Little Sisters and in this year of St Joseph – to welcome her.

The principal celebrant was Archbishop Emeritus Mario Conti, joined by many of the priests resident at St Joseph’s, and by some of the St Mungo Singers who have a long connection with the Little Sisters and were happy to provide support for the music of the liturgy. Archbishop Mario spoke warmly in his homily of the work of the Little Sisters, who have been in Glasgow since 1862, in caring for the elderly.

After the Mass the celebrations continued with a lunch and concert.
