The Facsimile of the Vita Kentigerna

The annual reading from the Life of St Mungo took place in the Mitchell Library on 10th January 2026. This year the reading told of St Mungo’s time in Wales when he set up a monastery and taught people about Christ, before returning to Glasgow, accompanied by some of his Welsh monks.  The readings were proclaimed in Latin by Archbishop William Nolan, and English by Rev Mark Johnstone. Before the readings Ann Morgan played on violin to set the atmosphere of reflection, and the St Mungo Singers brought the short celebration to a conclusion with the singing of the Glasgow anthem “Let Glasgow Flourish”. This celebration would not have been complete, of course, without the traditional “big

breakfast”, enjoyed with much gusto by the singers and musicians.
