The St. Mungo Singers, the Diocesan choir of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, started the celebration of their 40th Anniversary with a dinner at the Sherbrooke Castle hotel on 12 June.
Almost 100 gathered – choir members, former members, family, friends and guests – to mark the occasion. Mgr. Gerry Fitzpatrick, the choir Director, welcomed everyone to the celebration and took a few moments to recall the origins of the choir and its extensive experiences, before Archbishop Conti said the Grace.
There were no lengthy speeches or even musical turns after that, only a lovely meal and the chance for people to chat and reminisce. The only presentations on the night were to Johanna O’Connor, the only remaining original member of the choir, and to Dr. Noel Donnelly for his wife Kathleen who had been one of the original members.
At the end of the meal, Archbishop Conti expressed his thanks and appreciation to the St.Mungo Singers and its Director before giving the Blessing.
The 40th Anniversary celebrations will continue with a Jubilee Mass in August and a trip to Rome and Orvieto in October.
