St Francis
As a young man St Francis experienced war and captivity,
and decided that his life could be a more joyful experience
if he devoted it instead to God and people.
His family was well off,
but Personal Poverty became a tool for him
to be more generous in love for others.
He had a wonderful insight into the beauty of creation
and of our place within it with such as Brother Sun and Sister Moon.
He is a very important influence in our time
when we too are more aware of the need to respect creation,
Let us pray
Father of us all,
you enabled Francis
to look on us and all creation
with loving eyes,
and to see what is ‘very good.’
Enable us to be like him
who so faithfully imitated your Son
in love and in respect
for all you have made.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
