Morning Prayer 10  (Martyrs)

Hear my prayer, answer me, Lord.
Turn to me in your goodness.
Hear my prayer, answer me, Lord.
Turn to me in your love.

as we light our candle for peace we pray:

Let us pray

Lord, we pray for peace in the Holy Land,
for Syria and all the other troubled countries
where people’s lives are spoiled or taken from them
by violence or war.
We pray for refugees,
and for generous hearts for those who need to show mercy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

O God, come to our aid: O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Psalm 76: I cry aloud to God, cry aloud to God that he may hear me.

In the day of my distress I sought the Lord. My hands were raised at night without ceasing;
My soul refused to be consoled. I remembered my God and I groaned,
I pondered and my spirit fainted.
I cry aloud to God, cry aloud to God that he may hear me.

You withheld sleep from my eyes, I was troubled, I could not speak;
I thought of the days of long ago, and I remembered the years long past.
At night I mused within my heart.
I cry aloud to God, cry aloud to God that he may hear me.

I pondered and my spirit questioned.   Will the Lord reject us for ever?
Will he show us his favour no more? Has his love vanished for ever?
Has his promise come to an end?
I cry aloud to God, cry aloud to God that he may hear me.

Glory to the Father, glory to theSon,
glory to the HolySpirit now and for ever. Amen.
I cry aloud to God, cry aloud to God that he may hear me.

Let us pray
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God of the prophets and apostles,
You ‘choose the weak and make them strong’ in bearing witness to you.
give us the faith and courage we need in all the circumstances of our lives.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

We stand for the Collect or the Gloria.

Benedictus (verse 5)

For all our sins will freely be forgiven, the heart of God pours loving- kindness forth,
God comes to us like dawn comes to the sky bringing true light, where darkness once prevailed.
So all who live in fear of death’s dark shadow, God will now guide into the way of peace.

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm;
and may he lead us to eternal life. Amen
