The 2019 Jubilarians

The Mass for priests of the Archdiocese who celebrated notable jubilees of their ordination in 2019 was held in St Andrew’s Cathedral on 31 January 2020. Archbishop Tartaglia was joined by the jubilarians, Archbishop Emeritus Conti, Vicar General Mgr. Hugh Bradley and Vice Chancellor Canon Paul Gargaro, with the music of the liturgy being provided by members of the St Mungo Singers.

Welcoming the jubilarians, the Archbishop noted that they had already celebrated with their parish communities and families and he was pleased to have them together in the Cathedral. They were:-

Diamond jubilee- Fr Pat Osborne

Golden Jubilee – Fr. Peter Murphy (Fr. John Sheary who is also celebrating his Golden Jubilee has retired to Ireland)

40th Anniversary – Canon Peter Gallacher, Fr. Alfie McKenzie, Fr. Jim Doherty

Silver Jubilee – Fr.Stephen Dunn

Archbishop Tartaglia reflected that it was a good day to celebrate these jubilees, as it was the feast of St John Bosco, founder of the Salesians, whose great care had been for young people. The Gospel for the day (Mark 4 26-34) gives us the parable of the mustard seed which, though so tiny, grows to be so great. This parable is an inspiring one for all priests, giving them the comfort that their actions in the service of the Lord, no matter how small they feel them to be, can lead to great outcomes with his help.

After the Mass, the jubilarians joined the Archbishop for a celebratory meal.
