It was with great sadness that members of the St Mungo Singers gathered with the family, friends and fellow-parishioners of Marie Rogers in St Leo the Great church on 19 May to say farewell to her. Marie had been a member of the sopranos for many years until the onset of progressive aphasia made it no longer possible for her to take part in the choir.
She missed her involvement in singing very much but even as her illness progressed, she would try to sing along when Fr Gerry took her Communion at her care home. As a former teacher, the loss of her ability to speak must have been so hard to take but she was always cheerful and smiling, giving visitors hugs and kisses and thumbs-ups. She will be much missed. May she rest in peace.
