The Music and Mystery of Holy Week
A Liturgical Music Conference organised by the Music Committee of the Archdiocese of Glasgow
on preparing the music of Holy Week in the light of the new Missal and the riches of our
already developing repertoires.
While providing a broad sweep of the music the Holy Week Services with its psalms and acclamations,
special attention will be given to the Palm Sunday Blessing of Palms and the Entry Processional,
to the Holy Thursday ‘Washing of the Feet’ and the Procession to the Altar of Repose,
to the procession with the Cross and the Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday
and the opening and Procession of the Easter Vigil and the Easter Proclamation.
The unique ‘mystique’ attached to Holy Week can be much promoted by a careful yet practical
choice of music, and the New Missal provides much that can supplement what has been gathered
over the years – even over the cventuries!
