The Blessing of the Baptismal Font
The Litany of saints dates back to at least the 7th century.
It addresses God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
and then a selection of saints,
and is followed by supplications appropriate to the occasions on which it is sung –
such as the Easter Vigil, the Blessing of the Baptismal Font, Baptism, Ordination, Confirmation.
Saints are added to the original list as is appropriate.
This prayer should be sung at a moderate tempo,
there are optional very accessible choir parts
and it can help to add a wider dimension to the occasion
as we are reminded of the great company that we keep that is the church and the Communion of Saints.
