St Ninian & Pilgrimage – Small
St Ninian, is Scotland’s first known, saint living round about 397AD. There is very little that we know about him, but Whithorn’s history as an Early Christian Centre is undoubted. Ninian’s visit to Rome, his association with St Martin of Tours and his building of a White House or Candida Casa at Whithorn is also historic. From the 7th century people made pilgrimages – sociable as well as prayerful events – to visit his shrine in Whithorn believing that God’s healing power could be experienced there.
May we who have inherited his faith
share his joy and the hope of eternal life.
