The Gospel Verse reads: The Father’s voice was heard from the cloud:this is my Son, the beloved.  Listen to him.’   One of the reasons for choosing it for the 2nd Sunday in Lent is probably that it encourages us to pray – and to listen prayerfully.  Three useful tools for Lent are Prayer,Fasting and Almsgiving – and this Gospel verse reminds us.

With the addition of a Glory to the Father, the Gospel verse can become a very suitable EntrySong or Introit

here is the script used with the audio below:

“Lent is a time when we try to pray better, to have a simpler life style, and to be generous to others in need.
Let’s not forget that an important part of face of Prayer is ‘listening’ – Peter, James and John  were reminded of this on the mountain
and what is good for them is probably good for us.  So, let’s listen for the voice of God – whether it be when we pray, or in the goodness and example of others, or in whatever way.  As the prophet Samuel said: ’Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”
