Such are the ones who seek your face
St Ninian is a shadowy figure in history. He is acknowledged as Scotland’s first saint with a date round about 397AD celebrated as the beginning of his mission to his people. There is very little that we know about him. No written references to St Ninian from the period he was alive have been found but Whithorn’s history as an Early Christian Centre cannot be doubted. His association with Martin of Tours and his building of a White House or Candida Casa is well rooted historically. Historically we do know that from the 7th century people have made a pilgrimage to visit the shrine of St Ninian in Whithorn believing that God’s healing power could be seen in action there.
St Ninian believed that the teaching and self-sacrifice of Jesus Christ
brought well-being, happiness and hope to people.

Some Intercessions for the Feast of St Ninian
As we honour St Ninian, we pray that the faith in Christ that we share may gladden all of our hearts.

We pray that our churches may work and pray generously together
We pray especially for the parishes dedicated in the name of Ninian,
Lord, hear us
We pray for the leaders of our country,
that they may guide the country
in building a society to which everyone can feel glad to belong.
Lord, hear us
We pray for all the needs of our communities,
for the sick, the poor, the young and the elderly.
And we pray for those afflicted by earthquake and flood,
and those whose lives are so damaged by violence and war, especially just now in the Holy Land, Ukraine and Sudan .
