During Lent the ‘Alleluia’ is replaced with a response such as :
‘Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.
Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.’
The response is usually followed by a verses such as:
‘Not by bread alone d we live, but by every word from the mouth ofGod . . .’
or
‘The Father’s voice was heard from the cloud:
this my Son, the beloved. Listen to him. List to him.’
or
‘Repent, says the Lord. The kingdom heaven is close at hand.
Repent, says the Lord, the kingdom of heaven is near.
or
‘Lord, you really are the saviour, the saviour of the world.
Give me the living water that I may never thirst.’
