Mass of our Celtic Roots 1998 – 2025
This annual Mass was introduced primarily to welcome people attending the Celtic Connections Festival. It takes place at St Aloysius’ Garnethill at 4.00 on the last Sunday of January – the 26th this year. People and priests are most welcome, The St Mungo Singers, the choir of St Mungo’s, Alloa with Piper, Harpist, organist and Ensemble will lead us in St Patrick’s Breastplate, the Celtic Invocation, Highland Cathedral, ‘In the name of the Father’, I Cannot Tell, Lord of Life, I am the Vine, the Elgar Ave Verum and the usual Mass parts. The Mass will be celebrated in English but there will be a Scots Gaelic and an Irish reading with intercessions. This year Fr Gerard Mitchell will lead us in singing the Eucharistic Prayer to a setting by Chris Walker.
2025 gives us much to celebrate – the Holy Year, Glasgow’s 850th, and the 17th centenary of the Council of Nicaea – let’s enjoy them.
