Our piper welcomes the congregation

This year, the annual Glasgow the Welcoming City service, hosted by Glasgow City Council and organised by Glasgow Churches Together, focussed on the three important anniversaries being marked in Scotland  - Cluny 910 ( the start of a monastic reform movement which seriously affected the Church in the West), the Scottish Reformation 1560 and Edinburgh Missionary Conference 1910.  The front page of the leaflet for the service, held on 13 June,  had the symbol of the Federation of Cluniac Sites and a quotation from John Paul II’s  Encyclical “Ut Unum Sint” on  commitment to ecumenism. St.Mungo Singers Visit Dunoon and Rothesay 2010

The St Mungo Singers enjoyed their annual pilgrimage / day out on 5th June.  We set out for Dunoon and Rothesay with the sun shining brightly and the birds of Dumbreck  enjoying their songs. (more…)

Rehearsals for the Papal Mass at Bellahouston 2010

Music for the Mass with Pope Benedict 16th at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow on September 16th has still to be finalised and approved, but some music preparation will take place in
St Simon’s, Partick, with the support of some of the St Mungo Singers, on Thursday 1st July from 7.30 – 9.00, and in
St Mary’s, Calton, with the support of some of the Cathedral Choir and St Paul’s Choir, on Sunday 4th July at 2.30.  
Anyone with an interest in the music for the Bellahouston Mass 2010 is most welcome to join us.

The numbers to be invited to make up the choir for the occasion has still to be determined, but the following letter was sent round the parishes of the Archdiocese to encourage interest: (more…)

Ninian Cantata 2010

St. Mungo’s, Townhead, was the venue again for the Children’s Cantata.  This year the subject was St. Ninian, the earliest recorded Scottish saint, and the Cantata was by Br. Stephen E Smyth (words) and Fr. Gerry Fitzpatrick (music).  A total of 23 schools were represented on the day – over 600 children, together with teachers and some parents.  The children not only sang and acted but provided dancers and instrumentalists, supported by a small group of adult musicians

St. Margaret’s Children & Family Care Society Mass of Celebration

St. Margaret’s Children &  Family Care Society celebrated 55 years of working for children and families with Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church on 30 May 2010.  The principal celebrant was Archbishop Conti, and many of the adoptive and foster parents and children who have been involved with the Society or benefited from its services were present.
