2010 Ordinations to the Permanent Diaconate

Three more deacons have joined the ranks of the Permanent Diaconate in Glasgow. They are John Fletcher, Thomas Kelly and Thomas Thompson. Their ordination took place on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption, at St. Mary of the Assumption Pro-Cathedral. (more…)
Additional Glasgow Rehearsal for Papal Mass

In light of the interest from participants, an additional rehearsal in St. Simon’s Church, Partick has been scheduled for Thursday 2 September at 7.30 pm.

Glasgow Archdiocesan rehearsals for the Papal Mass on September 16th. Details for rehearsals in the other dioceses of Scotland will be found on BeingCatholic.org http://www.bpsconfscot.com/
These rehearsals are open to anyone interested in preparing the music for the Papal Mass, but are of particular importance to those who will be members of the Papal Choir.
St Leo’s, Dumbreck: The St Mungo Singers rehearse from 7.00 to 9.00 on Sundays. They will welcome people who want to join in the musical preparations at their rehearsal for the next 2 Sundays, 22nd and 29th August.
St Simon’s, Partick: 7.30 – 9.00 followed by tea. Thursday 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th August. Tea and coffee etc
St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Calton: Sunday 1st August at at 2.30pm until approx 4.30pm. Sunday 15th Aug – rehearsal at the Eyre Hall in the Archdiocesan Offices from 2pm until 4.00 and Sunday 29th August at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral from 2.30pm til 4.30pm. Tea and coffee will be provided. Papal Choir members: 5th September: All Glasgow members of the Papal Choir will rehearse together on Sunday 5th September at 3.00 in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Calton.
11th September: National rehearsal. All members of the Papal Choir for the 16th September (from all the dioceses of Scotland) need to be at Motherwell Cathedral to rehearse from 12.00 to 4.00 on Saturday 11th September. There will be a break with tea / sandwiches courtesy of the Diocese of Motherwell.

Ordinations to the Priesthood in Glasgow Archdiocese

On 3 July, the feast of St. Thomas, a packed congregation filled St. Mary’s Pro-cathedral in Abercromby Street for the ordination of three young men to the priesthood – and that despite the logistical challenge of getting to the church as the Orange Walk was due at Glasgow Green just down the road at the same time! The three candidates for ordination were Ross Campbell, Martin Kane and John Sweeney. (more…)
Vespers for the 2010 West End Festival

To mark the end of the 2010 West End Festival, St. Simon’s and St. Peter’s Parishes held a Sung Vespers in St. Peter’s Church on Sunday 27th June. The Vespers were advertised as part of the Festival events being hosted in the church and as such open to all who wished to attend. A particular invitation had been issued to members of the other churches in the area and the choir were delighted to meet old friends in Rev Tom and Mrs Christina Moffat, recently of Culross Abbey Parish Church and currently serving in Partick.
