Canticles is the term often used to describe the songs and hymns embedded within the Old and New Testaments.
Traditionally, the most well known are the Magnificat, the Benedictus and the Song of Simeon, used daily in the prayer of the Church. Here we also include canticles from the Letters of St Paul, the Prophecy of Ezechiel, the Book of Revelation (Apocalypse), the Book of Wisdom . . . . .
