Morning Prayer for the Centenary of the 1918 Education Act

Hymn:

In the morning let us know we’re loved
both at home and school and ev’rywhere we go.
Let us show your love to ev’ryone we meet
and be filled with peace and joy.

Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Let us pray

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Education Act of 1918
gave Catholic Schools and families
the support that they needed.
We thank you
that so many have benefited from a good education
and have enriched the whole country by the quality of their lives.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.  Amen

A reading from the Book of Tobit (8.5)

God ever blest, our mothers and fathers
Taught us to praise you, source of true love.
All of the heavens, all of creation
sing of your blessings, age upon age.

Intercessions

We ask God’s blessing on all the young people in the schools,
colleges and universities of our country.
Let us show your love to ev’ryone we meet and be filled with peace and joy.

We ask that the Holy Spirit will endow parents and teachers
with the knowledge, skill and generosity of spirit  they need
to serve their pupils well.
Let us show your love to ev’ryone we meet and be filled with peace and joy.

We pray that our governments will always recognise
the importance of education not only in Scotland
but in other countries that depend on our help.
Let us show your love to ev’ryone we meet and be filled with peace and joy.

We pray that our children may be filled with joy in the knowledge that they are loved and cherished
at home, at school, and in their parishes.
Let us show your love to ev’ryone we meet and be filled with peace and joy.

Our Father. . . . . . .

Blessing

May the Lord bless us and keep us from all harm
and may he lead us to eternal life.
