Holy Thursday 2018 Mass Of The Lord’s Supper

We bring in the Holy Oils of Baptism, Chrism and the Sick which Archbishop Tartaglia blessed this morning at the Chrism Mass for use in all the parishes of the Archdiocese.

I am the vine, you are the branches, live in me, live in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches, abide in me.

I am the vine, you are the branches, live in me, live in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches, abide in me.

If you remain in me and my word remains in you
ask whatever you wish and it shall be yours.

I am the vine, you are the branches, live in me, live in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches, abide in me.

Penitential Act

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

And, striking our breast, we say:

through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Dunkeld Kyrie

Glory to God (Jubilee)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to his people, peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

 1st Reading: Exodus 12: 1-8, 11-14

Psalm 115   The blessing – cup that we bless is a communion with Christ.

How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?
The cup of salvation I will raise, I will call on his name.
The blessing Cup that we bless is a communion with Christ.

Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful.
Your servant, Lord, your servant I, You have loosened my bonds.
The blessing Cup that we bless is a communion with Christ.

A sacrifice of thanks I make to him, I will call on his name.
My vows to the Lord I will fulfil in the assembly of God.
The blessing Cup that we bless is a communion with Christ.

2nd Reading; First letter to the Corinthians 11: 23-26

Gospel Acclamation:

Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.
Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.

I give you a new commandment:
love one another as I love you, love one another as I love you,

Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.
Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.

The Gospel: John 13: 1-15

The Washing of the Feet

In the upper room Jesus and his friends
met to celebrate their final supper.
Jesus took a bowl, knelt to wash their feet, told them:
you must do for others as I do for you.
You must do for others as I do for you.

Peter was annoyed! “This will never do!
You as Master must not play the servant.”
Jesus took a towel, knelt to dry their feet, told them:

you must do for others as I do for you.
You must do for others as I do for you.

In the upper room Jesus and his friends
met to celebrate their final supper.
This is what we do in the Eucharist:
you must do for others as I do for you.
You must do for others as I do for you.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

The Preparation of Gifts: we present to the Lord the Alms for SCIAF and the poor.

Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness,
make thy way plain before my face.

Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness,
Make thy way plain before my face

For it is thou, Lord, thou, Lord only,
that makest me walk in safety,
For it is thou, Lord, thou, Lord only,
that makest me walk in safety,

The Eucharistic Prayer with the Jubilee Sanctus and Memorial:

When we eat this bread and drink this cup,
we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come,
we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come,

DOXOLOGY : Through him. with him, in him, in the unity. Amen, Amen

Jubilee Agnus Dei

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us, have mercy on us. (2)

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: Grant us peace, grant us peace.

Communion Antiphon

Father, I pray for them: may they be one in us
so that the world may believe it was you who sent me,
it was you who sent me.

hymn

This is my will, my one command, that love should dwell among you all.
This is my will that you should love as I have shown that I love you.

No greater love a man can have than that he die to save his friends.
You are my friends if you obey all I command that you should do.

I call you now no longer slaves; no slave knows all his master does.
I call you friends, for all I hear my Father say you hear from me.

You chose not me, but I chose you, that you should go and bear much fruit.
I called you out that you in me should bear much fruit that will abide.

All that you ask my Father dear for my name’s sake you shall receive.
This is my will. my one command, that love should dwell in each, in all.
 Prayer

Procession:

And you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ our Lord.

And you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Come adore this wondrous present.. . . . . . .

Tantum ergo Sacramentum veneremur cernui:
et antiquum documentum novo cedat ritui;
praestet fides supplementum sensuum defectui.

Genitori, genitoque laus et jubiliatio,
salus, honor, virtus quoque sit et benedictio;
procedenti ab utroque compar sit laudatio. Amen

Let’s spend a moment or two praying for our own intentions –

And for the healing of any distress or tension in our families,

for the unity of all Christians,

for the solving of international distrust, disagreements and ill will –
just now we pray particularly for the Holy Land, Syria, Iraq, the Yemen, East Africa, the Ukraine, and for the refugees.

Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Hosanna, hosannah, hosannah in excelsis.

Holy Thursday  Night Prayer 9.00 p.m.

Glory to the Father, Glory to the Son
Glory to the Holy Spirit, now, and forever.
Amen.

Together we say:

The peace of God be with you,
the peace of Christ be with you,
the peace of the Spirit be with you
from the day that we have here today
until the day of the end of your lives.

The grace of God be with you,
the grace of Christ be with you
the grace of the Spirit be with you
for an hour,
for ever,
for eternity.

Reading                                                                                             Deuteronomy

Listen, Israel: the Lord our God is the one Lord.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength.
Let these words I urge on you today be written on your heart.
You shall repeat them to your children and say them over to them
whether at rest in your house or walking abroad, at your lying down or at your rising.

Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
You have redeemed us, Lord God of truth.
Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.
Glory be to the Father And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit
Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit.

Save us, Lord, while we are awake;
Protect us while we sleep
That we may keep watch with Christ
And rest with him in peace.

From the Song of Simeon

All powerful Lord, you give us leave to go in peace as you have willed.
Our eyes this day have seen your light;
in love give quiet, peaceful end.

Come to visit us, Lord, this night,
So that by your strength we may rise at daybreak
To rejoice in the resurrection of Christ your Son,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Blessing
May the almighty Lord grant us a quiet night
and a perfect end.   Amen.
