Fr. Colman McGrath, retired priest of the Archdiocese, was buried from St. Louise’s Parish, Arden, on 18th January. The funeral Mass was presided over by Archbishop Tartaglia who was joined by Bishop Bill Nolan of Galloway. The respect and esteem in which Fr. McGrath was held was seen in the number of fellow priests present for the funeral, and the packed church, with parishioners coming for Cumbernauld and other parishes in which he had served.
Members of Fr. McGrath’s family were present, including several from Ireland, and Archbishop Tartaglia expressed his condolences to them. He reminded the congregation that we are called to proclaim the Good News even in the saddest of moments, indeed especially then, and as the Gospel reading of the disciples on the road to Emmaus shows us, Jesus shares the worries of his followers and walks with them. The same is true for us today. We have hope and consolation for the future, with the assurance that the Lord never leaves us.
