Choir Opening Mass and Brother Julian’s 60th anniversary as a Marist Brother
19th August

The choir Mass gives us the opportunity to enjoy the first of many evenings in the 2018-19 session. We will use the familiar, taken from across our very large repertoire, and members can relax knowing that the music will be there for them.

Before Mass we will tune up with Marty Haughen’s ‘Ever on my lips’ and open the Mass with Catherine Walker’s ‘Great God, be near me.’ The Penitential Rite will conclude with the Byrd Kyrie leading into the New Jubilee Gloria.

During the Liturgy of the word we will sing David Harris’s setting of the James Quinn SJ version of Ps 33 and Gerry Fitzpatrick’s setting of the Gospel Acclamation from Micah: ‘This is what the Lord asks of you..’

Since today’s Mass is a very significant one, marking as it does both Brother Julian’s 60 years as a Marist Brother and the new choir session, we will sing the dialogue Baptismal Creed.

The response to the intercessions will be ‘God our Father, hear our prayer’ to John Bell’s music.

During the Preparation of the Gifts we will sing Noel Donnelly’s Celtic Invocation. The Eucharistic Prayer will be sung with the Jubilee Mass parts.

At Communion, we will sing the Taize: Eat this bread and follow it with the Quinn hymn ‘This is my will’

After Communion it will be a pleasure to sing the Mozart Ave Verum, and follow it with the Beethoven Blessing.

Marking Julian’s 60th, it is appropriate to use the modern version of the Te Deum ‘God, we praise you’ set to the ‘Ode to Joy’.
