The Marist community in Glasgow bade farewell to Br. Daniel at St. Peter’s Partick on the feast of St. Joseph. The funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Peter McBride, parish priest of St. Peter’s, and support for the music of the Mass was provided by Dr. Noel Donnelly and some of the St Mungo Singers.

In his homily, Fr. Peter remarked how appropriate it was to say farewell to Br. Danny on St. Joseph’s Day, as St. Joseph was the patron of a happy death and also of workers, and Br. Danny had worked in St. Joseph’s College, Dumfries during his teaching career.

Br. Danny had been the 6th of nine children and after obtaining his MA in History and French, he had followed his older brother into the Marist Brothers. As well as Dumfries, he had taught in England and Dublin. On his retirement to Surrey, he found a new gift in teaching children with special needs. Latterly he had come to Glasgow and after suffering two strokes, he had been cared for by the Franciscan Sisters to whom Fr. Peter expressed the thanks of Br. Danny’s family and the Marist community.
