The Canticle of Ezechiel

Hear me my people: Canticle of Ezechiel Words Stephen E Smyth Text : Ezech 36: 24-28 Tune: Slane Hear me my people, I will call you back home from the nations and countries in which you now roam; the place where I’ll lead you is where you’ll be free, for you are my chosen, your God I shall be. Hear me, my people, I will sprinkle you all with fresh water to cleanse you from sin and its thrall; each falsehood and idol I’ll teach you to see, for you are my chosen; your God I shall be. Hear me, my people, feel the new heart I give, the new spirit and guidance for how you might live, a heart made of flesh, not of stone , is the key, for you are my chosen; your God I shall be. Hear me, my people, choose to walk in my way, to observe my commandment, respect what I say; my promise I’ll honour if you will agree, for you are my chosen; your God I shall be. Hear me, my people, you will prosper and grow, no more famine or hardship in all that you sow; your homes and your cities will flourish in me, for you are my chosen – your God I shall be. Hear me, my people, I’ll redeem you from guilt, ev’ry fault will be made...

Blessing of the Crib 2008

Blessing of the Crib in Glasgow 2008 For several years – despite the inclement weather expected in Glasgow in early December – there has been a little service in George Square, outside the City Chambers of Glasgow, where the Lord Provost of Glasgow and leaders of the Christian Churches in Glasgow attend, and adult and children’s choirs lead people in singing carols. So far the Blessing of the Crib has involved the St Mungo Singers, a choir from Bearsden, a choir from St Catherine’s Primary School, the junior choir from St Leo’s parish, and the school choir from Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School accompanied firstly by the Parkhead Salvation Army Band and then by an ensemble from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The Glasgow Crib has been blessed or dedicated in words such as these: Loving God, Your Son Jesus came among us as a sign of your love for us. This crib is a symbol of his birth and of his sharing our humanity. May we, and all who look upon this crib, find here a sense of encouragement and hope. Let this crib be a reminder to everyone that in our humanity all people are related, that together we are one great human family – and that ‘God-is with-us’. Initially the ‘Blessing of the Crib’ in Glasgow was accompanied by the welcoming...

St Patrick: Hail glorious

Hail glorious St Patrick Words by Sister Agnes [audio:hail-glorious-org.mp3] Hail, glorious Saint Patrick, dear saint of our Isle, On us thy poor children bestow a sweet smile; And now thou art high in the mansions above, On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love. On Erin’s green valleys, on Erin’s green valleys, On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love. Hail, glorious Saint Patrick, thy words were once strong Against Satan’s wiles and an infidel throng; Not less is thy might where in heaven thou art; O, come to our aid, in our battle take part. On Erin’s green valleys, on Erin’s green valleys, On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love. In the war against sin, in the fight for the faith, Dear saint, may thy children resist unto death; May their strength be in meekness, in penance, their prayer, Their banner the cross which they glory to bear. On Erin’s green valleys, on Erin’s green valleys, On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love. Thy people, now exiles on many a shore, Shall love and revere thee till time be no more; And the fire thou hast kindled shall ever burn bright, Its warmth undiminished, undying its light. On Erin’s green valleys, on Erin’s green valleys, On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love. Ever bless and defend the sweet land of...
