A vespers for Advent  (1)     (As on radioalba.org christian)

prepare-the-way

Entry Song:

Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way,  prepare ye the way of the Lord.
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son, glory to the Holy Spirit
Now and for ever. Amen.
Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way,  prepare ye the way of the Lord.

O God, come to our aid: O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son,
glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Let us pray

Father, we ask you to give us fulfilment and peace.

In Jesus Christ, our Lord and King,  we are already seated at your right hand.

We look forward to praising you with all your saints in our heavenly homeland.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 21: May the house of the Lord be at peace.

“Let us go to the house of the Lord”, they said, Oh how great was our joy when we heard!

Now our feet are set firm on Jerusalem’s soil at the gates of the City of God,

May the house of the Lord be at peace.

For the city is blessed now with unity, all restored in its beauty and calm.

Here the tribes of the Lord in their thousands have come to give thanks unto Israel’s God.

May the house of the Lord be at peace.

For they come to sing praises and thanks to God, and, as pilgrims, obey his commands.

In the city of justice where David has ruled they now pray for Jerusalem’s peace.

May the house of the Lord be at peace.

In this city may wholeness and peace abound, in your houses and palaces, peace!

For the sake of my friends and relatives here for the sake of God’s House, pray, “Shalom”.

May the house of the Lord be at peace.
A short reading:    Philippians 4:4-5

Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice!
Everyone should see how unselfish you are.
The Lord is near.

Magnificat: My soul rejoices in God, my Saviour……..

intercessions

The voice of John crying in the wilderness is echoed tonight in the voice of the church:
Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

Let us work unceasingly for a more just world: let us support the work of the United Nations, of SCIAF  and of the aid agencies which help those in need:  Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

Let us grow in understanding the needs of our families and friends,
and everyone around us:   Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

Let us live in this world with an awareness of the presence of the all holy God and of the coming of the Kingdom.   Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

Our Father .  . . . . .

Let us pray
Give us the grace, Almighty God, to meet Christ, when he comes,
with lives filled with goodness
so that you may make us welcome with him
in your heavenly kingdom
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Ma the Almighty Lord grant us a quiet night
and a perfect end, a perfect end.
Amen.
