Carols for Peace 2009
December 30, 2009
There was some concern as we arrived for the Carols for Peace service in the City Chambers on 20th December this year. It had turned to snow and the big question was whether the singers, the instrumentalists and indeed the congregation would make it to the service. We needn’t have worried. Despite the weather, there was a great turnout of people and a really warm atmosphere to the whole celebration. Read more
Blessing of the Crib in Glasgow
December 30, 2009
The Annual Blessing of the Crib service in Glasgow, organised by Glasgow Churches Together (“GCT”) and hosted by Glasgow City Council, was held this year on 3 December in George Square. It returned to its original early evening slot and, in addition to the regular musical support of the Alba Brass Quintet and members of the St. Mungo Singers, we had children from Blackfriars and St. Francis Primary Schools, Gorbals, who really brightened up the evening. The weather also favoured those attending, being cool but dry, and a good crowd gathered. Read more

The Dedication of St. Alphonsus
December 20, 2009
It has been a busy year for the Archdiocese, with a number of landmark events. Yet another took place on 29 November at St. Alphonsus. The parish community had completed the renovation of the church sanctuary and the installation of a number of beautiful new stained glass windows. As the church itself, for reasons unknown, had never been dedicated, it was decided to use this occasion to consecrate the whole building.
The Wave
December 15, 2009
Well St. Leo’s, Dumbreck, got an unexpected 5 minutes of fame last weekend, when it hosted the ecumenical service prior to the start of the Climate Change march, the Wave, from Bellahouston Park. We were very happy to provide a venue for the service but didn’t realise it would result in the parish appearing on TV news and on the web – the copy of Netta Ewing’s tapestry really showed up well! Before the service started, we offered tea and coffee and nibbles ( and comfort stops) in the church hall for anyone who wished, and this was very welcome for many who travelled some distance to join the march. Poppy Scotland 2009 National Launch – Kelvingrove Gallery
November 18, 2009
Following the wonderful contribution made by St. Timothy’s children in 2008 at Poppy Scotland’s ‘Evening of Music and Reflection,’ Ian Douglas, Chairman of Poppy Scotland Glasgow, invited the same children to perform at the launch of Poppy Scotland 2009.
Primary 7 sang ‘Remembering,’ written by Ian Davison and Heal the World. They recited ‘Lest We Ever Forget’ and ‘For the Fallen’. Their performance was awesome, emotive and an inspiration to an extremely appreciative audience.
Bailie Catherine McMaster, representing Glasgow City Council said, “This was a creative moment to hear how children understood the cost of war and the wonders of being alive today. I was impressed with the confidence shown by soloists to engage with the words and sing out the message of Peace. Sadness and reflection of the remembrance event was beautifully presented. The class of P7 is well rehearsed and sound like vibrant youthful voices of the new generation and renewal of our City.”
Mass of Remembrance at St. Agnes, Lambhill
November 4, 2009
St. Agnes’s hold two services each year, in June and on the first Sunday of November, for those buried in the cemeteries within the parish or whose final committal took place in Glasgow Crematorium. This year the first Sunday of November coincided with the Feast of All Saints, and so the liturgy was as much a celebration of the Communion of Saints as a remembrance of those who had died.
